Mandalay Hill is a 230-metre high near the palace. Along its path are several monasteries and temples. At its top are famous pagodas and temples. According to the legend, the Lord Buddhist visited to the top of the Hill and directed his hand to a spot prophesying his disciple that the famous pious king would found the Royal City and the King Mindon had to built the present day remain Palace on the said spot. Nowadays visitors can take a shared pick-up and hang on to their dear lives (downhill is even scarier). The pick-ups leave every twenty minutes and bring you to the foot of the hill pagoda, where footwear is prohibited. The pagoda offers magnificent views of city and the surrounding countryside. One can also rent a private pick-up , a more comfortable option since the shared pick-ups can be very crowded.
